“RadioWaka Close Up”,With the revered rap artiste, A-Q
This Week On “RadioWaka Close Up”, Chygaga meets With the revered rap artiste A-Q
Chygaga: Hello A-Q
A-Q: Hello!
Chygaga: How did the name A-Q come about?
A-Q: A-Q came from the many questions hiphop who is the best, what is hiphop and what is not, what does the future hold for music hence the name, the
(A)= Answer,
(-)= to the
(Q)= question
A-Q means the answer to the question
Chygaga: What are A-Q’s Full names?
Background? Academics?
A-Q: Real name Gilbert Bani, 2 brothers and 1 sister total of 4kids, my parents actually had six kids but we lost 2boys. Primary school attended Fountain school surulere,
Secondary attended Kings College Lagos,
University of lagos for tertiary education.
Chygaga: Thinking back to early childhood, what was your first experience with music for the first time like? What song do you remember most as a child?
A-Q: My 1st experience with music was the music I heard my dad play as a child he liked Victor Uwaifo and Fela in the 80’s the music then was just different, stuck to ur memory for life, that was real music.
Chygaga: Tell us a little about the concept behind The EP titled ‘ Make Your Best Rapper Look Stupid’
A-Q: The concept behind the title of my EP is more like a challenge to myself and to my colleagues/competitors.. Hiphop is a competitive art.. So in other to stay on top of my game I constanly challenge myself. In other to make a fans best rapper look stupid to him I have to deliver my best.. Not just in lyrics but the beats and song’s concept have to be a hundred percent.
Machine Gun Flow ft Boogey & Morell
Chygaga: Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us? How do you like to enjoy your relaxation time away from the music?
A-Q: I have many other talents but the one apart from rapping I’m putting into use right now is script writing and movie production..
I’m part of the crew working on a new movie, its going to be really huge.. I wrote the script and hopefully they would let me produce it
cos I don’t think anyone can interpret the script better than I can as the author, don’t want to let the cat out of the bag about the movie yet but its going to be huge trust me.
For relaxation, I hardly ever relax. As an artiste that has been in the game for very long and has not achieved the heights he deserves, I take that anger out on constant work, if there must be pleasure it must be mixed with work or else I aint having it.. Maybe when I get more comfortable in my achievements in the future I could relax a little.
Chygaga: How long do you plan to make music and what are your long term goals in the music industry?
A-Q: I really don’t plan to rap for long, my plan is to set the platform for other talented artiste coming after me and put them on when nobody else will, hence I plan to own a large entertainment enterprise that would not only help musicians attain their goals but also fashion designers, artists, film makers etc basically any form of talent that doesn’t not require academic knowledge or sports.. Tops 5 albums and I’m done.
Chygaga: Which Nigerian artist(s) inspire you?
A-Q: In the past some nigerian artiste did inspire me but presently none.

Tops 5 albums and I’m done.
Chygaga: I’ve listened to your new track “One day” where you featured 3 upcoming artists Butafly, Boogey & Koboko produced by Sencosonic. Awesome track I must say, but which one of them really impressed you as a rapper?
A-Q: The one day song was a track put together by the good people of
Radio Palmwine Ent it was a competition for upcoming rappers to showcase their talent and was actually recorded a while ago.. The 1st 3 were to do a song with me which is what u heard as One day, I liked the idea of giving upcoming artiste a chance, so I tapped into it
immediately.
Who impressed me? Naturally I should say Boogey, but No, cos we all know by now what he is capable of, the rapper that not just impressed but surprised me was the female on the track ButaFly being able to hold her own among 3 good male rappers, I liked her verse, but in general they all impressed me. Nigeria got talent.
One Day ft. Boogey, Koboko & Butafly
Chygaga: Are you signed to any Record Label?
A-Q: I’m signed to myself I Co-own Hustle Inc with a partner.
Chygaga: As an artist, how would you define SUCCESS?
A-Q: Success in this music career to me is basically achieving all my dreams, till i achieve them I can’t count myself successful no matter
how much money or materialistic things I achieve, my dreams are not of wealth.
Chygaga: What do you think your “biggest break” or “greatest opportunity” has been so far in your musical career?
A-Q: I don’t think I have had my biggest break yet or have had any break at all cos I have had to work for everything I am right now. Give me that one opportunity that many have had and I swear, the industry would never be the same again.
Chygaga: What are we expecting next from A-Q?
A-Q: Expect a lot of surprises and more good music that’s all I can say for now.
Chygaga: What do you think about the current state of the Nigeria Music Industry?
A-Q: The industry is at the best it has ever been and I can only pray it gets better, all we need right now are more investments, adequate
distribution, foreign assistance and to kill piracy, and music and entertainment as a whole would not just be the biggest export out of
Nigeria but could also be one of the biggest revenue generating industries in the country.
Chygaga: What’s your advice for other young, up and coming musical artistes?
A-Q: I have only one advice for up and coming acts, I have been through everything u are going through its hard to come into the industry as a
newbie and make an impression but stay in that boat long enough and I promise you, you’d see where the land is.
Thank u very much for the opportunity.

Diary of an Emotionally Unstable girl-Volume 1. episode 13
Dear Diary,
Today is the last day of January 2010. Dats the 31st. I’ve not been regular in telling you stuffs and I’m sori. Its not that there hasn’t been anything, its just…well…I rili don’t knw. (Covers face).
Ok let me try to review what has been going on since I last wrote to you…..let me start with Kchi, he left and went to enugu!! He left me! (Sobs). Lol. Kammy and Mac are not yet back. Kay is still there and so is Omo and of cos Freddy.
We’ve been ok….. I think. Errrmm, today we were jisting and Kay started talking bout vals day (its just 14 days away) I’m not rili excited or anything. Nways he was saying stuffs like the person I spend vals day with wud be the person that has the key to my heart. (Rollin my eyes). I’m thinking of Dove and the plan Eby told me about and I don’t know if it would be a good idea. Nways Omo is getting kinda annoying and I don’t know why.
I’m so confused about me and Dove. Can u imagine Eby actually said that maybe Dove has a girlfriend there with him and he is cheating on her with me! Gosh! It sounds funny but I’m starting to feel lyk maybe its true.
He didn’t call for days, and wen I finally decided to break the silence and called him yesterday, he said “so u remembered me 2day”.. Wat an irony, doesn’t he know that he is everything I think about? *sigh* the rest of them think I’m scared of a lot of things. Maybe I am….but I can’t date Kay or Dee even if I break up with Dove.
Nways I’m here staring at my basket of dirty clothes and thinking of how I’m goin to start washing so……ttyl! XOXO!

Diary of an Emotionally Unstable girl- Volume 1. episode 12
Posted from WordPress for BlackBerry by Chygaga
Dear Diary,
Today is the 25th of January 2010. Its 7:15am and I just woke up. Havnt been writing cos I’ve been distracted by a lot of things, Dove being the major distraction. My heart is breaking into pieces right now cos I think this time it wud be over for good. It all started…….
On the 19th, I sent him a message on how he was treating me badly and how I felt I deserved better. He didn’t call, neither did he reply until the 21st. He played dumb and told me to search my heart and tell him exactly what I’m trying to say,(Hmmm). I replied him immediately asking him if the way he treats me was normal and I told him that he was creating a space between us each passing day. He didn’t call, and he didn’t reply the text either. So I called him the next day and he started telling me bout how he was put in jail for unknown reasons and asking if Nchi didn’t tell me. I was rili scared when he dropped so I called Nchi to ask what happened. Nchi told me that he hasn’t spoken to Dove in a while….(Dat was shocking). So I called Emeka his elder brother to confirm the story, but of cos I also got a confused reply, he said that Dove was fine. I was so hurt and angry so I asked to speak to Dove, and he tot it was funny that he lied to me! That was when I knew that something was rili wrong somewhere. Nways he didn’t call the next day again so I sent him a text about him not loving me anymore. He didn’t reply or call either. It had gotten too much so later that night I called him demanding to know why he was ignoring me. His stupid excuse was that he just woke up and he was just seeing my message…..since morning? Smh! At that point I broke into tears, it was too much for me to handle. He noticed I was crying and started saying that it was cos I was far from him that was why I was feeling like he doesn’t love me anymore. And that he hasn’t been calling cos he was broke…(Geez! How stupid did he think I was?)
After the call I tried to sleep but it wasn’t possible. Then he sent the ultimate message…..he said I did something to him that I knew about and didn’t tell him the whole truth ( now he was talking). How did he know that what I told him wasn’t the truth (so much for trust being in the relationship). I told him to tell me what I had done bcos I cudnt think of anything that I had done wrong. Instead to telling me, he started saying that his friends think he is a fool cos of what I did and blah blah blah.
Nways he said since he heard his friend’s version of the story that his feeling for me started dying. So that is it…..he called in the night but since I cried myself to sleep I wasn’t awake to answer his call.
I’m going to call him 2day but I guess my heart has already began to disintegrate so……
I called him and he said he didn’t feel like talking bout it (as always). He said its not that he doesn’t love me anymore but that its complicated….(Lol) complicated my ass!
He said I should come home then we would talk bout it some more…. Hmmmmm. Nways I’m not cryin anymore so that means there is hope …..I think…….XOXO
Diary of an Emotionally Unstable Girl- Volume 1. episode 11
Dear Diary,
Today is the 15th of January, I’m so sori I’ve not been writing for a whyl, its cos of my exams and I’ve been going for night classes…..
I’m rili angry right now cos Dee and I were supposed to go for night class 2day and all of a sudden he says he isn’t going again. Mtsheww. As if to make things worse Kay started irritating me. I’m just angry now and I needed to let it out.
Dee wants me to follow him to get dinner and even though I’m angry with him, let me just follow him and hear what he has to say. See ya! XOXO!
Diary of an emotionally unstable girl- Volume 1. episode 10
Dear Diary,
Today is the 11th of January……. I’m sorry I cudnt get back to you yesterday. Nothing much happened, Dove didn’t call (sobs). It was rili disappointing. I cudnt resist the urge to hear his voice so I called him 2day to ask why he got my message and didn’t call me. Can u imagine his reply? He said “I forgot” (sighs) what can a girl in love do?…….I took the excuse, we talked bout nufin for a while. The call didn’t lift my mood at all.
Ted told me to ask myself what I wanted in a relationship and check if its actually what I’m getting, I must confess its rili far apart, but there is love and there is trust…at least on my part….
I have an exam by 3pm today. Its 1:15pm already and I’m just confused. I need help or at least someone to talk sense into me. I’ve tot about breaking up with dove but I don’t know if I can survive without him (emotionally). Its rili hard. I rili love him, he is all I can think about and its not possible to just walk away……
Ok enough of my whining and lamentation, I need to get back to my book. When I’m done with my exam I wud let you know…..
Sup Dairy! I’m back, the exam was cool. Thank God! I’m rili tired and I feel so lonely…. I’m tired and moody so I’m just going to go rest my head…….XOXO

Chygaga: Can We Meet Ms chief?
Ms chief: Hi my name is Ms. Chief nice to meet you,lol
Chygaga: How did the name Ms chief come about?
Ms chief: No amazing story behind the name,I didn’t know what rap name to
give myself so I chose “mischief” being that I’m very playful and
later changed it to “Ms. Chief” meaning BOSS LADY hehehe.
Chygaga: What are Ms chief’s Full names? Background? Academics?
Ms chief: My name is Hassan Opeyemi, I’m from an islamic home,I have 2
siblings,I’m the last of 3,my parents are very much together and alive
and I’m a graduate of Accounting from the University of lagos.
Chygaga: As a kid, What type(s) of music interested you?
Ms chief: Mehn,I listened 2 any genre of music,I’m a music fanatic so I don’t
restrict myself to what genre I listen to,if its good music, then its suitable for my ears.
Chygaga: What inspired you to go into rap and when did u start your music career as a rapper?
Ms chief: Started singing at an early age, but decided to go professional and
all out late last year August. I chose rap music cuz it wuz easy for
me to do, tried 2 sing at first but I sucked at it LMAO. Plus I also
listened to a lot of rap music while growing up, so it subconsciously caught my interest.
Ms Chief -Wanting (Male Remix) ft. Ace Tha Emcee, J-Berg, Ex-O
Chygaga: Is there an Artiste, Director or Producer you want to work with that you have not yet had the opportunity to work with?
Ms chief: Yeah definitely, there are a lot of artists and producers I’d love to work with but not locally but internationally
Chygaga: I have listened to your new song titled. ” Wanting” remix ft Yemi Alade, Kel and Zara Gretti, great tune I must say. What motivated the remix?
Ms chief: Thanx a lot. After doing the original version, and it got people’s
attention,my manager brought up the idea of putting different females
artists on it, and I thought it was a dope idea. So we selected the acts and I’m glad the response was positive.
Chygaga: When are we expecting your album?
Ms chief: Lol,album ke! u know even wan make I blow first. Wen the bus
conductors, pepper sellers and also the elite demand for it,in fact

Ms Chief -Beez In Tha Trap Freestyle
Chygaga: Which Nigerian artist(s) inspire you?
Ms chief: No particular artist inspires me,its the people around me,the
situations I’m in and my passion for music that inspires me.
Chygaga: As a female rapper what are the challenges you are facing in the music industry?
Ms chief: I face every challenge any upcoming act faces so don’t let’s tag
it with sex, and one of our biggest challenge is getting people to
accept our music and personality regardless of whats trending out there
musically and also the challenge of pushing your song can be very difficult especially when not signed
Chygaga: What do you like to do for fun outside of working on music?
Ms chief: I run a clothing outfit with a friend,so if I’m not
singing/rapping I’m still working,lol,I’m a hustler like that, But
asides that,I love to hang with my BEATBUXX360 crew.
Chygaga: What do you think about the current state of the Nigeria Music Industry?
Ms chief: Lol,this is a very controversial question, but if I have to be
sincere I think there’s a lot of crap out there,no offence to any
act. The industry is growing no doubt in terms of expansion but the
quality and content of our music,”in my own opinion” still needs a lot of work.
Chygaga: What is your greatest achievement since you entered the music industry?
Ms chief: I’m sure u know there’s an “upcoming artist” title on my
name, lol,so far I love the response I have been getting from the
masses towards my music and I’m working hard to achieving great things.
MsChief – Wanting (female Remix) ft. Yemi Alade, Kel, Zara Gretti
Chygaga: What was it like working with Wizkid in the song “That gal” and how was the response to the song?
Ms chief: Lol,you know anything with wizkid is gold now, so definitely the
response was amazing and I’m glad i was very recognized on the song
too and also being the fact that I’m the 1st female peple are hearing
on a track with him. It was nice working with him, the boy has got the
kinda talent you don’t see on a regular so I’m glad to have worked with him.
Chygaga: What’s your advice for the young, up and coming musical artistes?
Ms chief: My advice to upcoming acts: Keep Improving,Work Hard,Be Humble and
Pray, don’t “Beg” Jayz to sign you, let jayz “See and Hear” why he should sign you.
